Traditions

"Tradition....tradition..." The father in Fiddler on the Roof was very proud of their family traditions.  Every family has traditions that are shared and passed down from generation to generation. Newly married couples began making their own new traditions and as their families grow, many special events are added that usually bring much happiness to all.  I love our traditions and treasure them each time we get together to celebrate the big and small moments in our lives.

I think that most of my childhood traditions were centered around holidays and birthdays.  A very fond birthday memory was when my mother, sister, and I would cook fondue for dinner.  We would painstakingly cut up the strips of steak or chicken, prepare a wonderful tossed salad (that was usually my job), set the table using dishes pulled out of the china cabinet and drank out of beautiful stemware that were reserved for special occasions.  We would polish the silverware, call dibs on which color fondue fork we wanted (they had different colors on the end of each fork so you could tell which one was yours while the meat was cooking in the pot) and iron the cloth napkins. There was something so special about heating up the oil in the fondue pot and cooking our own meat, dipped in moms "special sauce."  We always felt so special sharing that with each other.  It is a memory I do not want to ever forget.

When our children and grandchildren visit us here in Orlando, we have a tradition of visiting Downtown Disney.  Even before we lived here and would visit, Downtown Disney was always on the list of "must dos" for us.  This year was no exception.

Traditions while we're there, consist of shopping (of course), visiting the Lego store, taking pictures of ourselves wearing silly hats, and eating at Bongos.  I feel that families bond somehow when sharing meals with each other.  My son-in-law and I insisted on eating at Bongos this time.  Of course, photos had to be taken and I have shared a few.

After we were full of Cuban food, we moved on to the Lego Store.  My middle grandson, Andrew, has a rather big collection of Lego's and wanted a new Star Wars set (I also think my son-in-law was just as excited!).  Of course Stephanie and I made a Kodak moment out of it while the guys were drooling over what they wanted to purchase.
It amazes me the talent that Lego builders have!

Rennie was showing me the kit he wanted!

In the next post, I will show you photos of our silly hat tradition.  We love that tradition!

Until next time... ~Pamela
